FAQ 1 – What I Do

This FAQ has multiple pages. At the bottom of the page, you will find page numbers to go on to the next one.

What style/genre do you draw in?

I have my own style, which has its roots in manga/anime, but can do slightly more realistic if needed. Check out my galleries if you haven’t already to see some examples.

Will you change your artstyle to that of (insert artist name here) for me?

Nope. My style changes slighly on its own over time. If you don’t like the style of my most recent works, then please don’t bother asking. I don’t force myself to change my style for anyone. The reason commissioners buy art of their characters from different people is to see their character in different art styles. If you wish to be comfortable working with me, you must not mind my style.

What are you comfortable drawing, and what won’t you draw?

I will draw: furries (anthro), humans, and fantasy humanoid entities (elves, faeries, etc).
I will draw them doing: anything you want.
What is anything? Whatever your twisted mind can come up with. I do not object to blood and violence, sex (duh), bondage, or any fetish you can think of, HOWEVER, there are a certain list of things that I won’t draw at a normal price for personal reasons. Money is money after all. If someone really wanted to offer me a bajillion dollars to draw someone eating poop, who am I to pass that up? Things not in my comfort/enjoyment zone will be charged higher. These things are on the list below but not limited to only those. If you think something is questionable, and it is not on the list feel free to email me and ask.

If you want me to draw characters not belonging to you, you MUST GET PERMISSION to do this before it can be posted publicly. Whether you get permission or not, I will still draw it for you, however, if you intend to post the image anywhere online where anybody can see it, I will not get in trouble for your irresponsibility if the character’s creator finds out. These types of commissions are kept completely private so nobody gets in trouble. I win, you win, and nobody is the wiser. I keep my copy in a perfectly private place.

Things that I’m not very good at drawing include horses (and horse anthros, also including centaurs), reptiles, and non-morphic animals. I will still try my hardest if that is what you wish though.

Things I can’t do for you: sprite art (ie, pixel characters).

The LIST of QUESTIONABLE SUBJECT MATTER!
Scat (poopoo)
watersports (peepee)
bestiality**
loli/shota (children in sexual situations)***
** Bestiality is a human having intercourse with a feral animal. This does not count for anthro/human sex.
*** Loli/shota is children in sexual situations with either other children, or adults. If I think your character looks underage enough to bother me (I’m generally all right with above puberty age), I’ll let you know. And if they look TOO young, I won’t do it at all. Tuff shit.

Can I get a commission which includes your characters as well?

Probably. But the characters will determine the price, as will the content/situation.

Do you need an age statement to sell adult themed work?

I had considered it at one time, but found it highly illogical. There would be no proving that the statement is true. Anyone can say they’re over 18 on the internet and photoshopping an ID is not difficult. So no. I don’t give a damn. If you know you aren’t supposed to have said artwork and you get in trouble with your mommy for owning it, it’s your own damned fault.

Will you do a trade with me?

As of January 1, 2010, I have opened up monthly trades. You can see my trade list to the right hand side of this site. If you’re interested in one of the free months, you are welcomed to apply by sending me an email with a link to your gallery or a few examples of your work. I cannot guarantee you will be accepted, as I am going to judge based on knowledge of anatomy and artwork quality.

Do you take requests?

No, don’t have time. When I’m not drawing things for myself or doing commissions, I am writing and going to work. On top of that, I need time to eat, sleep, and other recommended daily activities, plus I have some other side projects I’m doing. So no, no requests, unless I specifically state that I will take them.

How many characters will you draw per picture?

One per page is the base price setup, however, I can draw as many as needed. The cost threshold per additional character changes the more that are added. Additional characters up to three cost an additional 75% of the base price per character. Characters four to six cost 100% more, and characters seven and up cost 125% more. Yes, this is expensive. Yes, this is a deterrent.

What mediums and materials do you work with and can I request different?

Traditional sketches and inks are done on 8.5×11 cardstock by default. Colored media is done on 9×12″ cardstock or larger, and sprayed with a clear fixative to prevent smudging. Ink is waterproof, fadeproof black india ink, sakura microns, sakura brush pens, and copic fineliners.

For traditional coloring, I use prismacolor and copic markers, prismacolor pencils, watercolors, watercolor pencils, acrylic paints, and other miscellaneous things. You can request anything you like, but depending on availability of the material, cost, and learning curve, I may or may not agree to it.

For digital work, I use a Wacom Intuos3 9×12 tablet. I work in PaintTool Sai, Adobe Photoshop, and sometimes Corel Painter.

What is the difference between a “refined” sketch and a rough sketch?

A regular sketch is just a quick sketch, stray lines everywhere. It really is quite sketchy. Digital example. I have no traditional examples at the moment.
A refined sketch is much neater, constructions erased, lines darkened and cleaned up. This is a good example of a refined sketch.

What are the differences between your digital coloring types?

A colored sketch is basically just a faint color wash over a sketch or rough sketch. Flat is flood fill with black or colored lines of an inked work.
Cel is like Flat, but with a hard shading as seen in anime and cartoons.
Simple Soft is just what it sounds like. I use a soft brush and add a bit more depth in shading.
Detailed soft is like simple soft, except I take more time to smooth down the rough edges, add more detail to the coloring, deeper shading, highlighting. In both simple soft and detailed soft, I’ll sometimes use textures to give a bit more detail.
Painting omits the need for inked work, and the result is something that looks like a digital painting. I haven’t done many of these, and while I feel confident enough in my abilities, the time taken is much greater so it’s not something I pursue often.

What is your “default” traditional coloring method?

For my default method, I use both markers and colored pencils, and sometimes watercolor. The markers are for the base color, and I shade and highlight with the colored pencils.

How many panels will you draw per comic page?

Up to 8 per page.

Would you draw a doujin or comic?

As long as you supply the story.

Are you able to draw something or make graphics for a site layout?

Sure. Email for an estimate.
